My brother's in-laws went to Uruguay (I think) for 2 years on a church mission and they had to pay $10,000 each to go on this mission. That seems rather expensive to me when you are helping others, but then again I guess someone has to pay for them to eat and for a place to stay.
Did you have to pay? I am not asking how much, but I am just curious if you did. I have a friend that just got back from El Salvador. I know she had to pay something but not sure how much. |
My DD and family are full time in the Philippines. I've been there twice and Panama lots of times when they were there.
They are school teachers to mostly missionary kids. |
We paid $700 a person, that was for our plane tickets. I don't know how much it cost per person for our stay at the camp; the church paid for that but I was told that the cost "was minimal".

I went to the Dominican Republic years ago when I was a newish OR nurse. It was with the Christian Medical Society and we had an opthalmic mission. We saw hundreds of people with eye problems, gave out glasses that had been donated and I ran the OR with 1 other nurse. We set up shop in a trailer that had a little sterilizer and most of the stuff we needed. I will never forget the experience. Especially the tarantula!!
I have 2 nieces who are full time missionaries (Moldova and Portugal) and 1 nephew who is a pastor in Indiana and a niece married to a pastor in Ontario. |
When in college we operated a Mission Church in a very rundown section of Knoxville Tn. The only other thing I've done is to take clothes to childrens homes in Oklahoma, Kentucky and Tennessee.

I went with our church youth group to Mexico a few years ago--I stayed at the church where they put us up, to cook for everyone after they worked/bible class. We haven't been back since things were getting bad over there.

I went to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, with Alliance Women(Christian Missionary Alliance Church) back in 2000 I think that was the year, it was a wonderful trip, We visited our missionaries and got to see first hand the work that was being done there, it was a trip of a lifetime. Lace

Yes, DH & I went with our church to English WV. We built a storage shed for a church, ran a Vacation Bible School & basketball camp, worked in a food pantry, repaired a roof for a womans and children crises center, and met some of the most amazing people God ever created. I still think of them 4 years later. If you ever get the oportunity to go on a mission trip, please go.
