The abbreviations don't bother me, took me a while to learn them and it felt a bit silly to use them at first. Spelling does annoy me and even though I have a spell checker on the QB a few have gotten through. If the spell checker says it's wrong I'll get a dictionary, something we have plenty of. One of my daughters said years ago, "Mum reads the dictionary like others read a book" Guess I did, but I did crosswords and played a lot of scrabble at that time. Since joining this board I've had to adjust some words to American spelling.
My pet peeve though is grammar. I hate seeing "I done this" "I seen that" and suchlike . They really set my teeth on edge. Guess I had good teachers when I went to school because I'm 62 years old and still remember.
My BFF is a stickler for spelling. I call her the "Word Police". She has been known to go into a shop and tell them how to spell words correctly.
I've always loved words but would you believe Maths was my best subject.

block of the month = BOM
width of fabric = WOF
the one that evaded me for awhile was QAYG = quilt as you go

really wish we had spell check because I always see my spelling errors after posting

I agree, I really dislike abbreviations. However, I don't spell near as well as I used to, and find myself using them more and more on the internet.

When they first started being used I thought DH meant DUMB husband. I guess they can mean what you want them to.

I agree. I can handle the abbreviations and am actually getting to like them but I really dislike the "text speak"

About the time I figure out what an abbreviation stands for I forget it. Is there a place to go for the translations?

[QUOTE=annthreecats;4762434]Found this list that was posted a while ago.

This is God Sent. Thanks, I now have somewhat of an idea of some of the abreviations are. I just try to spell out daughter in law because she is not Dear.
