Do be careful of the amount of licorice you eat; some persons may have a heart condition and licorice has been known to affect the hearts of those people. (Ask me how I know!)

It is still available through the Vermont country store, usually at christmas time. It comes in a BAG.

When I was a child my Dad and I shared the licorice that you are talking about. I think he got it in a small coal bucket like pail with the little hammer. I have seen the candy in Cracker Barrel but it seems to me that it is just like a hard candy. What dad use to get was truely hard just like a chunk of coal. Instead of breaking off in pieces it broke in shale like slivers. If it aint black it aint Licorice where I'm conserned!! LOL

I remember it was always out at xmas time for bad little boys and girls. I didn't know it was liquice just knew no one wanted to get it. Maybe it wouldn't of been so bad after all knowing that now, LOL. I missed out.

Licorice!! If it's licorice, I am all about it. I don't remember the old packaging or hammer, but it's now MUST on my shopping list. Thanks for bringing it up. I am a licorice "addict" of sorts, who has just discovered licorice tea. Yummmm! No DUI's or cigarette runs for this girl just her licorice fix!:p
