What a great thread! There are some good suggestions on here. I absolutely second the suggestion of My Cousin Vinny.
DH and I recently watched Harriet, which was excellent. Midway was also very good. If you are a fan of action movies, Netflix recently released Spenser Confidential which was fun to watch. Personally, I like series more than movies. The Netflix/Marvel series are fun to watch, particularly Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Criminal Minds Deadwood Better Call Saul The Big Bang Theory Young Sheldon Supernatural The Walking Dead I know they don’t appeal to everyone but they are fun to watch. |
Michele, We started Better Call Saul- my sister recommended it but I'm not really liking it. Does it get better????
I just ordered The Secret Life of Bees on Ebay. Looks like a good one. I loved the book. |
Thank you Sewbizgirl for the suggestion of - watched it last night - pace is quick, fun and uplifting!!

Susie - I am currently on the second season. I am enjoying it, but it does start a bit slow. If you’ve watched Breaking Bad, there is more context. In my opinion, “Slippin’ Jimmy’s” story is not as interesting as the bald guy’s (I forget his name at the moment.) I would certainly say that it’s not for everyone, though.
Boardwalk Empire, while violent is fantastic!! We binged on that from start to finish. The acting is superb and the setting is really interesting ( the 1920's) |
Can recommend Play It Again with Andy Griffith and Doris Roberts...a comedy.

Michele- Thanks for your reply. Saw Breaking Bad a couple of years ago. It was good but I had to turn my head a lot and let my husband tell me when I can look again lol. I have trouble with really graphic violence most of the time.I guess Better Call Saul is like a prequel? I'm going to give it a go. My sister raves about it.

Loved Green Book!!! Viggo Mortenson plays an Italian very convincingly.
Really good movie. We just watched on Amazon Prime a goody for those that like BBC stuff--An Inspector Calls; Knives Out will probably be moving to the free Prime or Netflix soon as it's on Prime now for $6. Also, Call the Midwives new season starts soon. Hubs is liking Zoey, new comedy. |
Our Souls at Night. (Robert Redford)

Saw Viggo on Jimmy Kimmel last year--he said he "auditioned" for the part by going to dinner with the writer (his character's actual son) with the family. Viggo said he sat down with about 14 people, all Italian-American and they had a salad & lobster, which he thought was great and the whole dinner--then course after course came out and all the food was outstanding. He said he left, drove his car around the block and parked and had to unbutton/zip his pants cause he was in food agony. That is where he got the call that he had the part--the family liked him!. Great movie!

This is a great thread, thanks for starting it. A few more:
Driving Miss Daisy The Natural Robert Redford baseball movie Second Hand Lions Michael Caine and Robert Duval I think Heartburn Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson As Good as It Get another Jack N movie Mrs. Doubtfire Robin Williams Hidden Figures Untouchables Kevin Costner Dances with Wolves Planes Trains and Automobiles I find that I really prefer the older movies since so many of the newer ones are so full of that "f" word that I just can't.... And will add My Cousin Vinny. I am a southerner born and raised and we thought that movie was hilarious. Just loved it myself. Marisa's rant about hunting and pants is one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen. City Homocide is a police detective series set in Australia. Justified is another series that ran 6 seasons and I didn't find it until I had Amazon Prime. It is an old FX series and although a lot of violence the characters are interesting and the storyline is excellent with some offbeat humor. |
