my youngest daughter "adopted" an albino northern pine snake from a friend who was no longer able to keep it. that was close to 10 years ago, and pandora is over 5 feet long, now. she is a beautiful ivory color, with auburn markings and red eyes. she was never given live rodents, so she ate "micecicles" when she was young, and eats adolescent "ratcicles", now. (no live food, because the claws and teeth can rip up their insides--and as the food gets bigger for her size, she could be injured by a rat in the tussle for dominance.) we have to thaw them out for her, so when i babysit her, i have to make rodent soup while they thaw--but she, too, is very docile. she's a cousin to the rattlesnake, though, so when startled, she shakes her tail in the paper and chips in her cage, and mimics a rattler. she has been in photo shoots, to the renaissance festival, and many outdoor events. mostly, she likes to wind around an arm and sleep/hide. she certainly isn't as snuggly as a puppy, but the kid likes it (and the snake lives with HER!)
