I have osteo-arthritis all over my body. Can not take a prescription as they make me break out, but am able to take over the counter. I take Nature Made "NEW"Triple Flex with (Vit D3 2000I.U.,Glucosamine 1500mg,Chondroitin 800mg, Msm 750mg)I like this one the best. Osteo-byflex, Natrol and others. It takes a week to notice improvement.
Good luck.

i had knee pain during recovery from hip replacement. The physical therapist suggested aqua therapy. I have had no pain since then.

I have had a lot of luck with Advil Gell caps - which are easier on the stomach. When I get a flare-up, I take these 3 times a day for seven days and that seems to really settle it down. Now have it in my hands and that is more of a problem for me than my knees - I am a hand quilter!! Water exercise is great too if you have a YMCA or a pool near you. Good luck.

aww Karla, sorry to hear you have joined our ranks. I just had arthroscopy on my right knee earlier this year due to a couple of tears that were causing my knee to buckle on me. While in there, they cleaned out a lot of arthritic damage. My pain levels are down considerably since the surgery and now I manage fairly well with just the heat and exercise.
I take Mobic when it gets bad, but have been able to be off it since the surgery.
The doc says knee replacements are in my future but I intend to put that off as long as possible.
Cortisone shots have been helpful for me short term. I had the new ones made from rooster comb stuff and I do think they were about 65% effective before the surgery.

Does anyone know if the Osteobyflex raises blood pressure? I have bone on bone in my right knee and it is very painful.
I can't seem to wrap my mind around getting a knee replacement but the dr said it will be in my future.
I have gotten Synvisc shots for the past 1 1/2 years...really helps a lot but now I am allergic to it so
my doctor is going to do Hyalgan the end of May so I will let you all know how that works. Your post are so helpful!

The Hyalgan is what I had and it helped a good bit. I too am bone on bone and I feel your pain and empathize.

My understanding is that Osteo Bi-Flex usually does not raise blood pressure, but it can in some people.

Also, glucosamine chondroitin can raise blood glucose levels in some people, so be careful if you have diabetes.

I also take Mobic l daily and they do help. Now there is a series of 3 shots one a week for 3 weeks. The first time I had them they lasted for almost a year. I had another set about 3 months ago and they really help. They are much better than Cortizone but I have forgotten the name of them. I may try knee replacement one day but now for awhile. To Chicken. Good Luck.

I have the same diagnosis with my left knee. For some reason most of the cartilage is gone from it. Cortisone injections helped for a bunch of years. Then when those stopped working, I switched to Synvisc injections. They only work for the knee joint. Contact your Dr., you might need to go to an orthopedic Dr. Exercises also help keep the muscles strong around the knee. Riding a bike is one of the best things to do, whether it's stationary or not. It's best to not sit for long periods or stand for long periods of time as well. So no sewing all day at your machine. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone! I saw the athletic trainer today and have some stretches to start with. My range is all great--just a lot of tightness on that left side she said. Next meeting is for strengthening. My Zyflamend came today--so I'll start that too. The cortisone is showing that it's working a bit more every day... so I'm thankful for that. I hope this thread can help lots of folks.
