anything that distracts one can be hazardous -

children acting up
spilled drink
fatigue
chemicals - alcohol, illegal and legal drugs
arguing with someone

there are more things that can distract than cell phones and trxting

The trouble with hitting his car is that he might be more than just an idiot on his cell phone. He might also be a nutcase with a weapon, and very happy to use it on me.

You're absolutely correct. Most of the things you list are under our personal control, though, and thus avoidable. The exceptions are the children acting up and fatigue, and I only include fatigue in unusual circumstances.

The speed limit around school zones is 20 mph but in Indpls,In and in Bowling Green, Oh in the college area's the posted speed limit is 10 mph. BG outlawed texting while driving or walking-if you are involved in an accident while texting you are automatically at fault. I recently changed car ins. and they asked me if I text-usually they ask if you smoke. This may be a sign that car ins. may go up if you have a cell with text capabilities.

It's amazing the number of times someone has pulled out in front of us while texting. We've had several close calls.

this is my pet peeve in busy parking lots people not even looking to see if cars are coming. Everyone seem to think their minor calls are super important apparently more important than their life or the life of others. Nobody looks for cars anymore even on streets kids no longer pay attention or get out of the street when they see cars. I guess no one teaches it anymore so people grow up into adults that just aren't cautious

It's against the law to text and drive here, but that sure does not stop anyone from doing it. Any time we are on the road we can see someone texting. Ever wonder how we got by in the "olden days"...when no one had a cell phone....just one...that hung on the wall....and everyone used it? My Dad used to talk about the "really olden days" when not everyone had a phone....you had to run down to the "Avenue" to use a phone!!
