I agree I feel great tossing those things. I know I'll have more in the next week or so why keep them?

I save boxes.. Not a lot, but mostly the beer case size. Most of them get filled with outgrown clothing from my daughters.. They are then passed onto our niece. Others are used for those purging binges that result in carloads to Goodwill. It's not like I have a room full of empty boxes... usually, just the jacuzzi tub in the basement. (Lived here going on 19 years, and have used the tub 6 times. )
I never save plastic bags other than plastic shopping bags which we use for scooping out the cat litter. I use mostly reusable shopping bags, so we get just enough bags for kitty litter. 99% of our food storage plastic is Tupperware... The real stuff stuff, so I have no need for plastics from the grocery store.

I keep a select few that I think I might use but the rest I recycle. They just take up too much room.

I save plastic containers for the Animal Rescue League they use them to make Pupsicles. I do keep a stash of boxes of a variety of sizes for mailing purposes
Newspapers go to the local vet. I strive hard to get as much as possible into the recycle bin.
Condo living requires a special kind of organization or stuffing!! Lol!

I thought I was the only one who saved boxes. My entire family teases me about this. I even have antique boxes- in 1981 I was living in Vista,Cal. I needed boxes to take Christmas packages back home -just outside of Toledo Oh.-on the Greyhound. I used these same boxes to return to Vista and I still use them for all my ''cool sewing stuff' These are 3 very tough tomato shipping boxes with lids. In the last 35 yrs I have probably moved 20 times-various states and towns and these boxes have held up better then I have.

I just used a bunch of the plastic containers with hinged lids (contained strawberries or other fruit from the store) to separate the different colors of rectangles for a Now and Later quilt. Worked great because I could see the colors but the pieces weren't loose and prone to scattering.

But I agree; keeping boxes of any kind can get overwhelming. I have trouble with getting rid of good sturdy cardboard boxes, too.

I use to keep plastic containers (butter and also spreadable) and small boxes. I moved last year after being in the same house for 38 years. Well, after what I got rid of, I do not same either anymore. If I need a disposable container, I use a glad bag. Works great. I even us glad bags for my quilting on the go or to separate projects.

Thank Heavens you said that Bear, I was just sure that I was the only lamebrain that has to save every box that comes within snatching distance of me. Guess it stems from having to send a lot of stuff to a lot of people all the time and never having the right size box, so I turned into the world champion of box savers.

PS, I have seen my share of "cardboard bosses" too and I was always tempted to kick at them to see if they would fall over and not get up again. I resisted the impulse and survived until 65 to retire.

I save some boxes if I think I might be able to use them for something else. Plastic containers, never would I get rid of them. I have all my shoes in either their original box or in a shoe size plastic containers to keep them from getting dusty. Same with purses I don't use often, in a plastic container so I can see what's in it.

I use shoe size plastic containers for fat quarters by color, a bit larger plastic containers for scraps by size. Plastic containers about the size of 12 x 12 or 14 x 14 for projects I'm working at from time to time. I use plastic bags for when I'm doing steps to a pattern, keeping all the small fabric pieces with each step, then have them hanging on a hanger to keep them off my cutting table.

I also use tin candy/cookie containers for my bias tapes and zippers. It gets so dusty down here in the basement so I need to keep items I don't use often out of the dust.

When I do get too many boxes and/or plastic bags I'll toss them, but never plastic containers as they cost bucks.

I save all of the ice cream plastic boxes, they are my storage for squares. 6 1/2", 6", etc. I have 10 boxes.
