I understand your wanting to get your Christmas packages at any cost, but might the sign cause someone to break the window and destroy the camera?

I don't believe in warnings. Just do it. |
I hate that packages are just left at the door. At least you have been able to have them delivered at work.
Hope this is a strong enough deterrent. I agree with another poster, thieves almost act like they wanna get caught - like it is a dare. |
what a great idea you have, I hope you catch the culprit, or even better yet they feel horrible about stealing your package and return your fabric to its rightful home

We go to a little country church and never used to lock the doors, after all God's house should be open to all, but now we lock the doors. So sad!! |
I think this is brilliant but don't warn them they might steal the camera.

You know, there was truly a package thief at work in the Pittsburgh area about a month ago:
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/...65/detail.html While the police seem to have an idea who did it, the mere publication of a story like this encourages copycat crimes, don't you think? We had a valuable package that we shipped to a Pittsburgh area address go missing in October. So the thieves are definitely out there. Our UPS and FedEx contacts tell us that it is more common this time of year. I would suggest that you have any valuable packages sent to your workplace, or even to a neighbor's where you know someone is always home. |
Well, UPS didn't leave the package anyway. The sender required a signature so they left a notice. I got online and changed the delivery to Will Call. There is a place not too far from my work so I'll get it today.
I still have the large delivery on Wednesday and hopefully I will be home by the time it gets here. That one is from another place that I already received one of the packages so I know that it will be left without signature. I was home for that delivery but he knocked and was walking away before I got to the door. |
I hate when they do that! I know they are probably in a hurry but it flips me out! LOL
|
Enough to make you angry. I have all my packages delivered at work but guess what happened to me recently. I ordered the super large dresden plate template from a vendor and had it delivered at work. when it arrived at the front desk it was completely open with a piece of replacement tape holding the package together. I was madder than a trapped bee! somewhere between the postal service and my office someone opened my package. they must have thought it was something electronic since it was flat. I believe it was delivered to me because they didn't know what the template was and they didn't want it. I'm asking for my packages to be sent by FedEx, DHL or even UPS from now on. Forget the US Postal Service.

I just read a story like that yesterday when searching about stolen packages. The woman said she was home unexpectedly for a delivery and when she answered the door the delivery woman looked very surprised and hurredly handed her the package and almost ran away. She saw that the package had been opened and taped shut and then that the items were missing! She had to chase down the driver and confronted her. She said the driver was really nervous and they fruitelessly searched the truck. She then got a strange note from the driver that she was SURE that the items would turn up, almost promising they would be.
She didn't get the items and she was out $200. She believes the driver stole items or knew they were stolen. |
That is one thing I hate about the holidays...its brings out the UGLY in people.
|
Can't believe what some people will do. Hope you catch them!

I had packages go missing when they were delivered so I bought a gray stow-away. I left it on the front porch and left a note for the mailperson. When I have mail going out I put the packages in the stow-away and leave a flap open with a small card on the clip that says outgoing. Now the post person puts all packages in the stow-away and UPS and FedEx put the packages behind the stow-away so that can't be seen from the street. My neighbors both work and I collect packages from their doorstep as soon as the mail comes and I always leave a note on the door saying I have their packages. Once they are home they come over or I take them back. (If its icy they come get because I am not good on ice!) We all look out for each other and since I am the one who is always home due to disability I am the one that gets the packages.

My father used to say the only thing lower than a thief was a child molester/rapist.

I have been off work all week and I was hoping that my other deliveries would come but, of course they didn't. One is Monday and another is Wednesday and I can't stay home for them. Everything I have ordered since, I am having delivered to my work. I set this up tonight with my webcam. The Logitech software has a motion detection video capture. I tested it out, walked quickly onto the porch and it worked good. I will tape the cord down and cover the laptop with a cardboard box because I also neet to cat-proof it. This sign is also being taped to my front door when I leave in the morning! :P |
I'm so glad I live in the country. Nobody would dare come up our driveway. They would stick out like a sore thumb.

Instead of bad boys, it could be bad girls or women. What do boys want with fabric, unless they know how to sew or want to sell it to someone for cash. If they were hungry, why not knock on your door & ask for food? Wish idea to have packages sent to your work. Hope you catch whoever it is.

i agree woth sewtinker, dont let them know you are taping it

I even stopped my daily newspaper because someone stole it 5 out of 7 days weekly.
------------------------------------------ I had lost several newspapers and then did like most of my family tries to do..don't get mad, get even. So very, very early one morning I got up and carefully opened the paper, inserted a note and then did it up again in the plastic covering. Sure enough, it was gone, but after that none were ever missing!!! On the note it said. ---------------------------------------------------------- On any day, or more in the future that I choose, this newspaper might explode with the RED DYE used in bank thefts. One of my friends is a local cop and said he will provide me with this dye. It will take a long time to remove it from your face and any exposed skin, and will most likely give you a bad allergic reaction. Signed..without any love at all, the true owner of this paper. ----------------------------------------------------- Soon after that a friend about 2 blocks from me complained that she had seen an older lady? walking a fat little dog, letting it crap all over the lawn without cleaning it up but picking up a neighbor's newspaper and tucking it under her arm. She never got mine again though. |
Sorry this happened to you. This week we had our pressure washer stolen off our screened in pool deck. They sliced the screen (could have opened the screeen door) and took it but forgot the hose. Our dog sleeps by our bed and our bedroom is also off the pool area, our dog barked. LOL I told him to stop and he did. Next morning my husband noticed the screen cut and the pressure washer gone. Police don't think it will be found. We got the hose and they got the washer. I believe what goes around comes around.
Glad I didn't let the dog out as the theft had come prepared to slice the screen and I wouldn't want anything to happen to my dog. |

The delivery that was supposed to be tomorrow came today right after I got home. I'm taking the sign down but going to look into a real camera system.
|
I wouldn't tape the note to the window. I would want the person to do it again so you can see if it is someone random or one of your close or distant neighbors.
|
Hope you catch the thieves. But I wouldn't put a sign up. Only inviting more trouble. My opinion.
|
Glad you got your packages.
I have a tall planter next to the door. I emptied out the back end against the wall to put in new soil and plants. When I did that, the postman put a package there. Shortly after that, so did UPS. I now have a hidden package spot that the delivery people automatically use. I'm pretty comfortable with it. The only gray area is that people constantly come to the door to sell, proselytize and petition. I'm half expecting one of them to grab a package. They don't seem very observant though. You have to look directly into the planter to see even a large package. |

Oh dear. I just sent my granddaughter a quilt for Christmas. I put so much time and love into it and everyone at their house works (she part time). I sure hope she gets it ok. We insured it, but that doesn't help emotionally. We mailed it today to get there by Thurs. so hopefully it won't be sitting anywhere for very long.
|
I'm so sorry for the theft, it really irks.
We're so lucky up here on our hill, nothing bad hardly ever happens(knock on wood). |
My Mother was working one day and Fed-Ex delivered a package for her. He sat it on her porch and went back to his truck. He did not knock on the door-my sister was there who lives out of town. He came back to her house and ripped off the thermometer that was an antique, Coke sign and took it with him. My sister followed him in her vehicle until she got his tag number. She came back and called my Mother and told her what had happened. She then called the police. They in turn notified his employers and they were waiting for him when he got back to the service area. He denied getting the sign but, the evidence was in his truck! Needless to say, he lost his job. Sometimes it is the ones least expected doing the stealing. I hope you have less trouble from now on.

they want their hands cut off, if caught presume they get off with a caution----------AND they say criminals are hard done by.
|
Wow -- the stories here are terrible! I'm so thankful our delivery people seem to be honest! (or I have nothing for them to steal!) We DO have a sign on the post near our house (DHs doing). It says "This property is protected by Smith & Wesson"....maybe THAT's why we haven't had problems????
