Definitely a scam.

Evie 06-03-2011 02:18 PM

Definitely a scam. The scammer got my niece's address book through her FaceBook account. The family was "mugged and stranded" in Scotland -- NOT!

debbieoh 06-03-2011 02:19 PM

SPAM SPAM delete and don't reply

She bought it. DELETE is a good weapon. IT is a scam.

quilt3311 06-03-2011 03:08 PM

Sounds like a scam to me!! I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole!!!!!

lovedquilts 06-03-2011 03:11 PM

definetly a scam, I have gotten a few of those from different people

suern3 06-03-2011 03:23 PM

I read in today's paper that there is now something called "targeted phishing". What it means is that somehow the scammers get email adresses of people you know or names that you might recognize and then ask for money. This sounds exactly like that. The article said this group of scammers is in China. For what it's worth. Delete as fast as you can. They even sent things to grandparents using grandkids names.

Two of my DD's and a business person I know, had their older NOT USED email addresses hacked into. The one from the business person said," No Subject" in the email. I get things from her all the time, and I opened the link and got a trojan virus. It wanted me to download a virus cleaner for $79.00. I could not open anything or go on the internet, without the message coming up on my screen. When I got two of my two different DD's emails, I caught the "No Subject" and notified them right away. They went into their old emails and deleted everyone in their contacts. One of my daughter's it happened twice to her 2 different older accounts.

PriscillaC 06-03-2011 04:31 PM

I got one also...supposedly from my friend's mother. I wonder if they got my name from Facebook..? I did ignore it though.

phylby 06-03-2011 04:36 PM

I have gotten this type of emails several times from people who are on my emails contacts. When I contacted the friends they say their email address had been hacked. This is also done on FaceBook. Best not to even open the email and DO NOT return the email. The perpetrator would then know that it is an active email. I even got one from a cousin who was actually in the hospital ICU!

ClydeneC 06-03-2011 04:59 PM

The same thing has happened to my SIL. Please do not respond to it.

Ileen 06-03-2011 05:25 PM

Don't do it !!! It is a Scam.

OMG yes. I received one from my niece saying she was in London. Someone had hacked her computer.

newell 06-03-2011 06:59 PM

This happened to my son. He started getting all sorts of e-mail from his friends and wondered why he hadn't told them he was going on vacation to London. Same thing happended to a good friend of mine. She spent a day and a half getting it straightened out and ended up getting a new e-mail address. IT'S A SCAM AND I'D REPORT IT.

Marion T 06-03-2011 11:32 PM

don't open. I agree with everyone else, it is a scam. I got a trojan on my computer last year opening what I thought was a genuine email from an internet store I sometimes use.

marthe brault-hunt 06-04-2011 02:05 AM

I also received an email from Hatty Carpanini, very similar name . Thank you for the warning. Of course I din't open it.

Miss Priss 06-04-2011 04:43 AM

OMG. It is definitely a scam. I ran into that last summer with a desperate sounding email supposedly from my newest dearest friend. I won't go into all of the details but I caught it in time & was able to save my $. The person in London was red hot angry when he tried to pick up the $ at Western Union but found I had cancelled it. Boy, was he angry. I emailed him back & told him I had turned over all of his emails to the FBI & they were looking into it. Of course I didn't but had to try to scare him a bit.

For a smart girl, I sure fell for this thinking my friend was in trouble. I think I was at a very vulnerable time of my life & wanted to help my friend. This scammer had cracked into my friend's acct. & had done the same thing to sev. of her friends.

I'm really embarrassed that I went so far. I'm usually smarter than that.

eimay 06-05-2011 06:40 PM

BIG TIME SCAM.

valsma 06-05-2011 06:41 PM

A long time ago from my grandson. My grandson is not quite 5. Delete, delete, delete.

dgrindey 06-06-2011 05:48 PM

OMG! This is a major scam. My friend received a collect call from Europe and she did accept it because she had a friend vacationing there, and this person said they needed money to get back to the US. She called the local police and they told her it was a scam.

borntoquilt 06-07-2011 08:09 AM

It's a well know SCAM!!!!! forget it! better yet call that FRIEND and ask her?????

Judy C 06-07-2011 11:51 AM

Send it to the virus people and they will check it out. Just put virus n Hoaxes in you search box and they will all pop up. You only need to send it to one of them and they know what to do.

auntiehenno 06-08-2011 08:34 PM

Yes, different. Used a Denver sewing website.

Radiana 06-09-2011 07:18 AM

There is another topic here about a mom getting scammed it's the same thing. It's happened to me twice with two people in my email address book. I'm assuming that it starts out on Facebook.

Jeanne Fauss 06-13-2011 03:41 AM

You must let this Harriet know....she will have to change her email address. Someone has gotten into her addresses. I wonder if anyone would actually send them money.???

ging10ging 06-16-2011 02:57 PM

I think this is a scam. There are all sorts of them out there. I had an e-mail from Bank of America telling me I had $2000.00 from the IRS just call them needless to say I didn't do anything because the IRS would never send a refund to the bank plus I don't even get that much from them so be careful. Sue

Sheila_H 06-16-2011 03:58 PM

Anything asking for money is a Scam no doubt. I had a weird email a couple of months back saying this guy was a lawyer and he had a client by the same last name as me and wanted me to say I was the next of kin so we could get the money, I'm like what the heck? No idea how they get our email addresses but I wouldn't send them anything. If they knew you personally they'd know how to get a hold of you by phone if there was a real emergency

Prettiptibbs 06-16-2011 04:14 PM

Hit the DELETE button! It is a scam!!!

ging10ging 06-17-2011 04:25 PM

You know now that someon said Facebook it may come from there. I don't usually go on but my sister-in-law send me a mess so I went onto it and it wasn't long after I got that e-mail. I think I'll just be staying off there. Don't need any scams. Sue
