I was born and raised in PA and both my parents were from Ohio, but I have lived in FL about 30 years.
We 'hunker down' and wait to see where a hurricane or storm will hit.
Dad was 'goin to town and be back til noon.' Meaning he was going shopping and would be home by noon.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you!
I aint (or haint) et yet... meant he had not had lunch
We have hot tea and cold tea.. and if you want cold tea you either want Ice Tea (unsweetened) or Sweet Tea
'I'd have liked to have been a fly on the wall then'... Meaning I would have liked to have overheard or seen what happened.
She's ditzy or she's a real ditz... She's such an airhead... She's a real flake... Nutty as a fruit cake. Half Baked.
Don't just set there on you haunches... or Get the lead out (of you a**) meaning do something. Oh and another expression, "Do something even if its wrong!" Meaning don't just stand there, do something! (get busy) Resting on her laurels... just lazing around.
'He's so dumb he doesn't know his A** from a hole in the ground!' or doesn't know his A** from first base!
Mom needed to run the worsher... meaning needed to do laundry.
I once kidded a friend who said he had to carry his mom to church. I asked him, don't your arms get tired? He replied, well how do you take your mom places ? I said, I drive her! He replied, Do you use a big stick?!!! LOL

A number of years ago in Dallas, while listening to a local radio show, the announcer was making a traffic report. He said "Traffic is backed up for 3 miles on Stemmons due to a dump truck tumping over across from the market hall." He had a guest on the show, obviously not from Texas who said "What did the truck do?" The announcer said 'It tumped over." The guest comes back with "What is tumped.? By then I'm 'cracking up'. The announcer had to explain that the trucked turned over on it's side.

Grandma would cook a 'mess' of black eyed peas.
We 'shucked' corn.
"Oh Lawdy" when worried about something.

The way I would describe my daughter's ex-boyfriend; "You can't polish a terd."
Your recipe is only as good as the ingredients you start with, "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh_t."
Caviar dreams on a hot dog budget.
Six one way, half a dozen the next.
If wishes were fishes, we'd all have full dishes.
To let someone know that you can't always get what you want, you might say, "People in hell want ice water."
Don't act pretentious, "Don't get above your raising."
My Pawpaw used to tell me that he was "going to go make me a big nickel," when he would go to work.

Heard yesterday for the first time- "you can't slap him/her because s__t splatters". Made me laugh all the way home.

"Well that is on the fritz". Meaning not working right

"As useful as t**ts on a bull".

Rugrat...a baby who is still crawling.

Stand on line (my NY is showing) yet in New England it is: Stand in line.

Wicked pissa (Thanks Boston1954)...I'd forgotten this one!

"Dunks" or "Dunkies" for Dunkin' Donuts

Soda (NY) and Tonic (New England)

Undies (panties)

Great thread...LOL [DH is wondering what I've been reading!]

Circling the drain means someone is hanging on to life by a thread.

Thanks to SewingSew!!! This was a hoot to read! Thanks for starting out my Tuesday with laughs!! I've lived all but 1 yr (born in Topeka) in Texas & a lot I have heard before but some not. Funny, funny, funny!!! Such an education!!! It would soooo interesting to hear what this young generation would think. I've said some sayings around a certain DGS (can't remember what) but he'd say "What does that mean?"...

Don't eat the cow and choke on its tail!... meaning don't get all the way through a big job then quit just before its finished!
He/She is Goin' to Hell in a handbag!... Meaning not a nice person.
Still on the green side of the grass... still alive
Don't count your chickens before they hatch... Don't get ahead of yourself... Wait and see
If wishes were fishes and fishes were horses then beggars could ride....
Wish in one hand and S*** in the other and see which one fills up first!
Don't dilly dally... meaning stop delaying.
Uppety... snobbish
Over yon, Round yon, Just over there a piece... meaning over yonder, , or over around the bend, a small distance away.

Boy this has been an interesting read! SewingSew, circling the drain (CTD) has the same meaning in hospitals too....

Some of these I've heard of, most are new to me though. Had an elderly aide (from W Virginia) when my gram was getting on who could often be heard saying "Oh, bless her pea pickin' heart." Found out years later from a co-worker that the aide was not being nice when she said that about us!

DH, who is 50, says "Crazier than a s**t house rat" a lot.

My dad also says "If you're born to be hung, you'll never be shot."--memory brought back by previous poster-thanks!
