I agree. Hope everything turns out great for the baby and his mommy. |
Now there are 3 out there!! :)

I love the pics, and they must feel safe, secure and have a great food source to hang around so close to your home.

Great pictures. Is that a baby owl?
|
Well, I hope we don't have rats, but at least if we do, they will be gone soon. I do see a snake once in the while,
Yes, it is a baby, mama and daddy(?) now out there! |
That is a cute owl...cute son too.

From what I can tell it is most likely and Eastern Screech Owl. This little guy is learning to fly and take care of himself. The short tail feathers are a dead give away about his age. While he can fly without longer tail feathers it makes it more difficult to fly and maneuver. Mom's are normally keeping an eye out for the these guys and still feeding them. As a wildlife rehabber with both state and federal permits, I have raised many of these guys. Some are trusting and sweet and some are definitely not. All wildlife does best when the natural mom takes care of them, but every now and then they need to be cared for by foster parents. This is best left to people with the knowledge to care for them properly. Please, if you find wildlife you think is orphaned, call your local Dept of Natural Resources or go online and look for a wildlife rehabilitation expert in your state or area to seek help. Not only is it illegal for you to keep wildlife, it can also be dangerous for you and the very animals you attempt to help. Sorry to preach, but I have seen too many animals suffer needlessly from people trying to help.

Wow!!! That is awesome

we have barn owls in our attic, they have come back for about 6 years now, we try blocking them out but they find a way in anyway. this year my husband is going to make an Owl Box and we're going to see if they will nest there (because they really stink up the room they nest over, and their babies are cute but very very loud)

Such beautiful birds.. If you want to feed it take a tiny bit of raw hamburger in a bobby pin or small tweezers and hold it near its beak. If it is hungry it will eat it. Remember it will poop on whatever it is standing on. |

No, no, no. You cannot feed raptors hamburger - you will do far more harm than good! Many misguided people do this and by the time the animal is brought to a rehab center it can have metabolic bone disease and be unrealesable to the wild. Please don't try to feed or give water to any animal in need of help. You must keep it safe, warm and quiet until you can get it to a rehab center. No food, no water - you might just kill the very animal you are trying to help!
