Have you ever seen pictures of women who tat their chests after double masectomys. They are beautiful and the women are some of the strongest and proud people you could find.

I have my tat on my left upper arm (so it will be covered when I work, rules ya know). Anyhow I agree with the hurting part. It didn't hurt much. At least I was able to bear it and some parts it didn't hurt at all. It just depended on which part of the arm he was doing at the time.

I knew a girl who was abused and molested for most of her childhood. When she was grown she had tattoos put on parts of her(I don't know where they are)body to remind herself of the things that had happened to her. She would tell you her story if you asked and point out the different tattoos and tell what they signified. Maybe the telling was her therapy, I don't know.

This truely is a sad story. Your pain is obvious. Please think about this. It isn't the tats that caused this pain it is the people who couldn't see past them. Makes me feel a little kinder to those more different than me.
Thank you for this simple lesson. Some good has come of this sad story.

no

Iamquilter 08-11-2011 05:16 PM

Absolutely not not.

Jammin' Jane 08-11-2011 05:26 PM

I've seen lots and lots of very attractive tattos. But I've decided to pass on getting one.
This post has been fun to read...lots of opinionated individuals on the QB!! And that's a good thing!! :)

sueven 08-11-2011 06:19 PM

I am the only adult in my family that doesn't have a tattoo. I really hate needles so no tattoo for me, but I do find them fascinating. My favorite one is the one Fe has on her chest of Eeyore,Piglet, and Tinkerbell.

For the simple reason of what your seeing right here on the board..people judge you the wrong way for Tats..my DD has an awsome job.. but her tats aren't known about..also..some are done for personal reasons and private ! I personally love them..have one and think men are sexier who have some..lol..and I'm 63 years old !!

I had my tatto placed where my scrub tops would cover mine. As a home health aide tatto's are not prohibited but you are asked to cover them if at all possible. Since I work with various elderly people some could be offended or bothered by the tatto. However, in warm weather I sometimes wear tops that show off my tattoo when I am not at work.

What a great topic!! 12 pages of responses---this is almost as good a the topic on your favorite male actor!!

I won't get a tatt.. just not for me but if I would I think a quilt square is a great idea!! But which one would I choose???
Carpi Diem would probs be the wording for me!!

Congrats on the hot topic!! Got everyone responding!!

Sandra in Minnesota 08-11-2011 06:56 PM

Nope, not for this. I'm a weenie too!

4EVERquilt 08-11-2011 07:05 PM

Well!!! If you get one in your old age then it wouldn't get saggy or faded because your going to die before it does that. Anyhoot, my niece whose about 25 just put a tatto of 3 buttons on her wrist signifying the loss of her great-grandmother, (my mother) who was a quilter. It's actually kind of cute!! I don't have any tatoos, but if I would get one it would have something to do with quilting.

Margie 08-11-2011 07:06 PM

Absolutely not...not any kind ...ever never...I hate tatoos on men or women.

Dee 08-11-2011 07:44 PM

Not my thing. Different strokes for different folks. My DS has many.

wolfkitty 08-11-2011 07:58 PM

No. I just don't find them attractive. On anyone, at any age. My son went to a lot of trouble to design his own Celtic 'bracelet' around his upper arm. To him a month or so before he told me. I guess it is a kind of jewelry these days, but I grew up hearing that only 'bad people' got them, which of course is not true, but I have to work very hard (and I do) to ignore that voice. I do not like the permanency part, not because of age, but just that I would get tired of it at some point. And it's not a sin - I just don't care for tattoos, or scarring, as some of the native African people do. I don't see how inflicting pain to the point of passing out makes anyone a better person.

To the person whose uncle was tortured and shunned, you have my sympathies for people's deep unkindness and cruelty.

TacoMama 08-11-2011 08:01 PM

No tatoo for me!

kay carlson 08-11-2011 08:04 PM

Never will have a tatoo. I don't want an ugly tatoo on my body when I grow up (notice, I didn't say OLD)

AVQuilter 08-11-2011 08:22 PM

What a lively discussion...thanks for this topic as this is fun to read everyone's comments. I did do the Born to Quilt temporay tat and that was fun for a week but would not do it forever. But the Longarm one sounded really funny and true...LOL!!

JanTx 08-11-2011 08:51 PM

None for me.. too chicken and just no desire for one.

My son-in-law has a few - he's a Marine and seems like many of them get them after they survive boot camp. He has a bulldog on each shoulder blade and USMC in between. He said he could choose who saw them this way. But .. last year he added three dolphins on his upper arm - they represent himself, his wife, and their son. Guess if they have another child he'll add another dolphin?

My daughter has the same tattoo between her shoulder blades. She's talked about getting one since she was 16 and she's 28 now. She had mentioned getting something to represent her family, but I was a bit surprised when she actually did it.

Bluelady 08-11-2011 09:02 PM

I always wanted to get a battleship tattooed on my chest.. that way I could watch it sink as I grew older...

donnalynett 08-11-2011 09:08 PM

Are you kidding? It took me 31 years to get up the courage to get my ears pierced!

Now that is a wonderful tribute to you! My first husband had a woman's name on his arm. He had it blacked out and had my name put on his arm. I have often wondered over the years just how many "stripes" his arm has now?

That's funny!

My husband has a tattoo of a woman on his shoulder - she is me, and if I ever got another tattoo it would be something representative of him- but I don't like names. And at this point I figure even if we did split up - we have spent half our lives together and had 2 children - he will always be a part of my life/past.

sunrise450 08-12-2011 09:06 AM

No I would not get a tatoo. Never I tell you. NEVER!!! LOL!

drgranny 08-12-2011 09:17 AM

Never say never!!! I seem to always eventually do what I said I never would.

Aww, man..I could have gotten an Easy Bake Oven on my stomach but it's a good thing I didn't since that oven closed up shop many years ago.

chickadeee55 08-12-2011 01:34 PM

I would say if you like tats, get one. Don't worry about what it will look like in 40 years, live for the moment.(because they do pass by so fast) But do consider where on your body you put one, if there is ever a time you don't want people to see it.

I have a few, and I would love to get another.

ShabbyTabby 08-12-2011 02:03 PM

Absolutey not!! I know it's a fad with all the younger gals but I'm sorry it just does not look appropriate to me. Besides on my old hide it would look awful....

Sue Fish 08-12-2011 03:15 PM

real old fashioned here...really do not like tattoos at all...just my opinion of course..I know they are very popular

Debra Mc 08-12-2011 04:40 PM

Not only NO but HELL No. I think tatoos are awful. I will never discrate my temple that the Lord has made. It is really starting to get back the way some people mark & defile their bodies. My DS"s BFF has a bunch of them. I just don't understand it.
