My kids were obnoxious and know it all in their teens, respectful in their 20's (but still thought mom & dad were "old"); delightful in their thirties, but really fun to be around in their 40's now that one has been through the teen years times three and the other one is living with teenagers.

My DH and I are so lucky - one child now 35 who managed to stay out of trouble, graduate from college, get a professional job (forecast meteorologist for an energy company). Would like to see him find someone to share his life with, but hasn't happened yet.

I was told when my kids were little that you don't know if you've done a good job raising them until they are 32. So you have a few years to put up with them. Sorry. But they do get better. Mine are 36 and 40 and both have become wonderful people. LOL

my son when he turned 14, he'll be 21 next thursday, and he's getting better, he even bought me a beautiful card and heart shaped box of vandy for valentine's day. he's a great kid, but has a lot on his shoulders right now, as he always has, so i give him a lot of slack.

I think it all depends on the child. I have a 41yo DS who is a sweetheart,a 39yo DD who is still a horror show. None of her siblings speak to her, and she barely speaks to me. Then we have another DD who is 33 and she is the sweetest most thoughtful one of the bunch. The last is 15 so the jury is still out on him. Just love them and hope for the best.
