Here there are people that set up tents at some stores and camp out for a night or two to make sure they're first in line. 18 degrees last night---I'm not going to get into a tent outside a store. There's not anything I want enough to drive 25 miles and stand in line for. I refused to even look at the ads. I'd rather pay more and shop with leisure. Thanksgiving to me is a time to relax and be with family. We play board games, computer games, read, watch a movie, eat left-overs, etc. but we don't shop.

Yes, in Canada the Boxing Day Sales are a bit crowded! It is the day when people who want to buy what they really wanted for Christmas head to the stores...

But here in Newfoundland Boxing Day is a holiday too, so we have to wait until the 27th to go duke it out!

Black Friday is a media thing they invented the name and it stuck. I wouldn't be caught dead out at those sales. Besides there will be many more better sales before Christmas.

Did you ever wonder, What do the people who camp out in tents do with the tents when the doors open? Do they leave them up? Aren't they worried someone else will come along and take their stuff. I would.

It was so bad at a Walmart one year here that a person was trampled and killed. I just stay home.

Black Friday is a day that causes normally sane (or somewhat sane) people to go completely crazy. Its also a day i will not leave my house!

DH works for a retailer that I think does a wonderful job of stopping the frenzy on Black Friday. An employee dares to emerge from the store about 1/2 hour before they are scheduled to open. He starts with the first person in line and asks what they are there for. He gives them a certificate for that item and moves to person #2. There is no reason for a stampede because if you have the certificate, you will get the item(s) that you want. I know that's not realistic for a lot of retailers, but for those who have limited "hot" items, it's a great idea IMHO.
