quick computer question

How do you determine if your modem is giving up the ghost???? I'm having a terrible time staying on line and my DH's laptop is connected to the same line and hes not having any problems. I'll get kicked off 6 times in a row and then all of a sudden it will kick in and stay on....I see computer repair in my future

try unplugging the modem for 5 mnutes at the very least.....then replugging in and see if you have the same problem. My DH does this once in a while. It's like doing a "restart". Also, check EVERY line in to the modem and out. pull the plugs out and re-plug back in and inspect for broken wires. Good luck!

thanks, do you mean the telephone line into the computer? I've done that or my DH has. Hes retired Ameritech and has tested the line but no noise or static....I'll unplug it and leave it unpluged for awhile and see if that helps....thanks again

if you decide to replace the modem, don't take it to a shop and pay a pile of pesos. there will be easy to follow instructions in the box and the whole process only takes about 15 minutes. (after you've spent a half hour getting the package open, of course. )
i don't just think you can do it. i KNOW you can.
