Haha, I just went and watched it. I thought it was great! It was a Singer 99, not a Featherweight, but good enough. The giant bolts are certainly what a tv set designer would be familiar with; it appeared to be upholstery fabric. The squares looked like upholstery samples, too.
The technique was... unique? But it's a quilting bee organized by Bernadette and Penny, so it makes sense that it's all wrong.
I'm going to add "quilting bee organized by friends who don't quilt" to my list of fun bachelorette party ideas!

The Singer 99 was beautiful. Yes, I thought the quilting bee was hilarious! Amy: "Really? You think I'm that boring?" Lol! That's what my family thought of me quilting If my sisters had ever thrown a party for me it would have looked the same.

yep, I caught it. Did you also notice the rolls of fabric leaning against the chair was decorator fabric & not bolts of quilting fabric? I guess the producers figured no one would know the difference. Good show, I watch it all the time.

I think you may be recurring to the Granny Squares afghan. My mother used to crochet those. I have seen Granny Squares quilt patterns and have been thinking about trying one.
