The donut hole will stop paying for medications after a set amount is used. Then you end up paying 3-5 thousand to get through it. If you get a better insurance it will pay for generic medications if you are in the donut hole or a more expensive policy will cover all at that time. Be sure to know what medications you are on and try for generic if you don't have the additional insurance. You should receive statements from the medicare dept telling you how far you are from the donut hole.
