We have done this for a long time. Kept outside in the sun till we need them. Also keep some of the smaller cheepies in our camper for night lights in the bathroom when we camp in the mountains where we have no access to electricity.

If our power goes out we will head out to the camper. Can't use the water (winterized), but all the kitchen appliances and furnace can be used.

We live in northern WI in the woods and the power goes out often. I always have 1 if not 2 oil lamps filled for extra light. We have a gas stove that I can use a match to light even though it has electronic igniters so food is not an issue, as well as a gas fire stove, we always have 6 gallons of water, pantry full of food and a gas generator to keep the pump (for toilets), freezers and TV working. We love to sit in our recliners and watch TV with fleece or quilts throws if needed.

We have a generator, battery operated lights, oil lamps and flashlights. We also make sure our batteries are fresh and keep plenty stored in one central location.

We also keep water stored because if the power goes off so does the well. We have a propane grill on the patio and a camping cook stove that runs off of propane as well to use on the patio.

Oh and the most important item.....one of those camping coffee pots.......
Not even the dogs like to see me if I don't have my coffee in the morning...LOL

I buy what I call hockey pucs. They are 2" round LED lights that have a sticky back. Keep one stuck on the bathroom mirrors. When power goes out, just punch them on and they put out a lot of light with the mirror reflecting too. I also use the battery powered 'candles'. If you can find ones that use D cell batteries, they last a lot longer than the ones that use AAA batteries.

Ugh, we've had about 10-11 inches in the last 24 hrs -- still have power but it's flickering. However, the satellite dish is full of snow and too high to reach, so I'm looking for the spot I stuffed the radio so I can plug it in! Not looking forward to the cold that's sneaking in behind this storm but I heard that by the weekend the temps may be in the 20's -- sure beats 16 below. When did you say Spring starts?
