Oh you are NOT alone! Believe me! After a looong day at work, I got into my SUV, with my keys and stuff, started the engine, then a friend came out of the building, so I got out, and out of pure habit, hit the lock on the door, and shut it! Engine running! Called my husband thinking he had a spare key with him, no, so had to call a locksmith. Took 20 minutes for him to show up and I was soooo embaressed! He said it happens all the time!

I dropped my mother off one day and left the car running. As she was getting out she hit the button to lock the car, I didn't realize that she had done it. I called my husband and he wasn't at home (before cellphones), so I had to call my son to go to the house and get the other set of keys and then deliver them to me, I had to wait about an hour for him. Needless to say I always take my keys with me when I get out of the car.

Looks like what goes around comes around. Anybody remember the cars from the 20's and early 30's that had push button ignition on the dash? I think it may have been on an old Model A Ford that I had the opportunity to drive one time that had one.

hubby has done it, not me. I have this OCD issue with keys. I Check 3 times before I get out of the car and close the door and then I will feel for them in my pocket. Same way with the house key. And I will hit the lock button 2 times on the car, just to be sure.
I've been locked out of our house. There was a time when there was always someone home so I didn't have a key. One Sat. morning- guess what- they were all gone! I come home with bags of groceries and sat on the front steps until I could find somebody close enough to come and let me in. Thank goodness for cell phones. I now have a key since my daughter moved 2 years ago. I guess I was grown up enough to have my very own. We still laugh about it.

I did it when I was a whole lot younger. me and my friend went into a dance club. after about a half hour there was a page that someone left there car running with their keys locked in it. and gave the plate number. We sat laughing about the stupid person. No one can be that dumb.Than a bit later again they made the same announcement but gave the make of the car and color. OH MAN !!!thats when it hit us I was the fool who did it. Can't remeber exactly but I believe we had to call the police to open it .

Many years ago, DH got locked out, called the police who could not open it so they got some guy out of jail who said he could open it. He did and the cops took him back to jail. This was a very small town.
