If I were only quick enough, or they were a bit slower, I'd be able to take a snapshot of them trying out their wings. You wouldn't believe the wing span they already have! It's almost as wide as the nest. And, they're flapping them, trying to feel that lift.
Different personalities too. One of them, who'd been doing the wing flapping earlier, decided it wanted to lay on some leaves one of the parents dropped off. He poked and pulled and practically shoved one of his siblings out of the nest until he got that branch just right!
The third one is picking at a mouse one of the parents left behind for them. They must be well fed, despite my not seeing the parents at all today, because none of them seem too interested in the mouse and, they sure are growing fast!

Dinner must be on the way.... they're all awake, preening themselves, and keep looking up into the sky. Guess the mouse was just a tidbit.
I wonder if the leaves are to help their digestion. #2 and #3 are nibbling on #3's leaves.

by my calculation, going back over this thread, the chicks are about 4 weeks old (28 days). According to the internet, they'll start to fly anywhere from 43 to 48 days old. So, they've got another two weeks of practice flapping.

okay, just saw Mom or Pop in the nest with dead mouse or something. Obviously, they're still feeding the last two chicks. Given the amount of wing flapping I've seen by the chicks, I have to figure the other one lit out on his own power.
Mom? with two of the chicks. Just saw Pop.
