Thanks for sharing. We always had one or two dove nest on the farm where I grew up. Mom loved bird watching and had this huge cement bird bath outside her kitchen window.

A pair built a nest in my mom's hanging plant one year. Went to water plant and watered nest. Had to let plant die. They are so peaceful looking.

I had a nest in a large wreath I had hanging at the side of the front door. We got to watch the babies go up but it scared the UPS guy and FEDX and USPS more than once. I finally put up a sign. The birds in the wreath are real, walk slowly and you will be fine. No problem after that.

I miss the sound of mourning doves, too! Never see them up here in WA, at least not in western WA. And she must have laid another egg when you weren't looking. Can't have twins with an eggshell--no room for expansion! When I used to breed zebra finches, I broke open an unhatched egg and found two little embryos side by side. I mentioned this to my biology professor, who was disappointed that I hadn't preserved the specimen, and explained why they could never have developed. They grew as big as the shell would allow, and then, nowhere to go.
