My mom taught me to sew and taught me to leave thread scraps for the birds.

Sorry, I refuse to give the birds another reason to nest in my trees and poo on everything...

when I find a birds nest I can recognize things in there that came out of my sweepings - hair, lint, even dental floss.
Sadiemae, you can send all your unwanted birds to my place!! I love them. We moved there 20 years ago and it was an open field. Parts of it have grown up with trees, and every year there are new and different birds - I love to hear them sing and see them doing their thing.

I have not heard of doing this before. I have taken my dryer lint outside and the birds will use that. Guess I will be giving my scraps to the birds now. Thanks for the idea.

I like the owl, the robins, and the mourning doves. The sparrows and starlings drive me crazy. They are just nasty birds.

I used to do this but then I read somewhere that the bright thread and scrap colors aren't good to use for the birds. They show up easily and make it easier for prey to find them.

Bird nests built with scraps of fabric retain rain water far too long, whereas natural materials dry out faster, as a favor to the birds, do not give them threads and scraps--the threads can entangle little birds feet and damage them. I know, it seemed like a great idea, but the consequences can be deadly for the birds. piecefully, the old one
