When we change the sheets on our beds, we are changing the "bed clothes" (my DH still laughs at that one after almost 39 yrs.)

Useless as a screen door on a submarine

Dog's breakfast - meaning a mess - from my British BIL.

My favorite, when someone asks how (a food) is - "It's nothing I'd run uphill after."

Some sayings are regional too and sometimes very funny especially when you are clueless as to what they are. I live in Ohio but am from New York. They have a lot of sayings I never heard until I moved here. This isn't a saying but they call pens "ink pens". I always wonder what other kind of pen there is!! Also lunch bags are "sacks"

Life is just a bowl full of cherries.

My mother often said, "He would argue that a black cat was a white one, even if he had to skin it to prove it".

LOL! I actually love this one! I even catch myself using it every now and then.

When I used to change the bedding of my kids cribs, I'd just say, change the crib, but with the flannelette sheets I used along with a rubber sheet, it always made me feel as though I was changing the cribs diapers.

Now as a Grandma, I want to say it to my grand kids sometime. Usually I just the parent a look.
    Good thread. Karen
    I spanked my kids, too.

I call shopping carts, carts, but my mom calls them, buggies, and my husband calls them wagons. LOL!
