scarecrow
Not sure if this is the right spot to post this but it's not quilt related. I've been searching blog land to see if someone has posted how to make an easy stuffed scarecrow for the porch. Has anyone seen anything like that in their wanderings? Thanks!

I've used a child's 1piece footed pajama (the kind with a zipper up the front). Stuffed it with wadded up plastic bags or newspaper then dressed it in a pair of overalls and flannel shirt from goodwill. If you put the feet into shoes or boots then stuff them full the shoes stay on better. I just whip stitched the neckline closed and added a decorated foam craft pumpkin for the head (I cut a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin to stuff the neck of the pajamas into). After the season it can be disassembled for easier storage.
The pajama is the heavy kind. I think we used to call them blanket sleepers.

Our public library had a darling stuffed shirt and jeans sitting on a bale of hay. No head, but a hat so that it looked like the head was resting looking down at a book that was in the lap. They had a pair of yard gloves for hands holding the book. You could have the gloves holding some sewing if you wanted that theme, or it could hold something more related to fall - a jack-o-lantern for instance. I think they had stuffed it with hay or with leaves. You really couldn't see what it was stuffed with, but there was a stick in the back stuck in the bale of hay going up the back of the shirt and into the hat holding everything in place. It had a toy cat at her feet.

Our Fair has a Scarecrow competition every year. And each year they get better and better!
Some use Christmas tree stands to hold the Scarecrow up!
Some do a framework of lumber.
Some pick a traditional Scarecrow look ... others may have a slightly different theme.
One this year had a mop upside down with the mophead strings as the hair.
Christmas Angel hair works good for hair .... also Easter straw.
Some illuminate theirs with lights ... plug in, battery operated, or solar lights.
Halloween masks make for great faces/heads.
A trip to your closet or a thrift store and you can find a whole wardrobe to make your wo/man!
And there's always lots of embellishments available at Dollar Stores!
It doesn't need to cost a lot ... and the possibilities are totally unlimited!!
