I lost my old dog back in the fall and could not afford to get another. I was thinking and had seen that even some "rescue"-ing dogs were over $100 or more. After reading this wonderful post, I decided to actually look for an older female. Oregon Humane society has a wonderful program where dogs over 6yrs are about $85 and as another older female, my discount was $50!!!!

And so Lyla found me! She knew I needed her and I'm just so thrilled to hear a tail "whap" the floor again! I'll be forever grateful to Rebecca of burchquilts for her post! Will send a copy to the humane society.

She's a beauty. Looks quite a bit like my neighbor's dog. There is something so very special about a rescue dog. With a little patience, they bond so totally to you as if they realize the gift they have been given.

And more importantly the gift they are giving you makes them confident and relaxed I believe.
and yes, SouthP it is funny how the pure Chows can be domineering and bratty but the mixes, like many breeds and other animals like horses are often the best! Thought I saw Chow Chow in her though her card said Shepherd mix! Seems like every unknown breed is a shepherd mix if medium or large and the small are Terrier mixes! Whatever. Here are two old ladies making each other's lives fuller. She's not as big as she appears - about springer Spaniel size.
