Simple Quilts

There's no 'keeping up with the Joneses' here! You are totally free to make quilts the way you want to make them. You only have to please yourself.

The quilts that have many intricately sewn pieces, fantastically quilted by a longarmer quilts are beautiful!
However, I am finding myself yearning for simply pieced quilts - maybe something like churn-dash alternated with plain squares - or a nine-patch alternated with plain squares - that are tied.
Is there still a place for quilts like that in the "modern" quilting world?
I'm looking for quilts that can be made with just a few different fabrics, and with a minimum of "fancy" equipment.

I like to make the traditional quilts and that is most of what I make. I have done the modern for family who wanted one and was proud of the way they turned out but when I choose one to make I go traditional.

i greatly admire the talent and patience of those who make the glorious art quilts. Unfortunately, I have neither the talent, the patience nor the time - so my quilts are simple. I donate most of them and want them to be used and loved. We all have the right to make whatever quilts we like.

In my world, quilts are to be USED. I'd much rather see a simple quilt lying on the lawn under a picnic than something intricate and showy. I like tied quilts, too. They fluff and soften with washing and a soft, fluffy quilt seems much warmer to snuggle under even though the batting is the same. Heavy quilting seems to make the quilt stiff and they just don't have the same "give".
