Simple Quilts
The quilts that have many intricately sewn pieces, fantastically quilted by a longarmer quilts are beautiful!
However, I am finding myself yearning for simply pieced quilts - maybe something like churn-dash alternated with plain squares - or a nine-patch alternated with plain squares - that are tied.
Is there still a place for quilts like that in the "modern" quilting world?
I'm looking for quilts that can be made with just a few different fabrics, and with a minimum of "fancy" equipment.

Sure there is still a place for the simple quilts. Our sewing group which meets every two weeks from beginning of September until April make a dozen or more each year. Simple, traditional, tied. As 2 or 3 are ready we plan a meeting for tying. One lady brings in the frame we work together to set it up, load a quilt all of us take turns/ work together to tie them. They are very appealing, nice, well received quilts.

I definitely feel that there is a place for simple or traditional quilts because I make them all the time. I do have a LAer quilt my quilts but I only make traditional patterns. I admire the people that make the art quilts but they are too fancy for me and I always wonder what they do with the artsy quilts as I am sure they don't have them on their beds for daily use.

One thing to consider is that, at one time, every new quilt pattern was "modern". I love the simple quilts best. Sometimes the fabrics make a traditional simple quilt look modern, too.
Do what you want and do what you love. Enjoy.

I'm with you Bearisgray, I like simple too. It seems like so many quilts are over quilted, ruining the pattern for me. I have never tied a quilt but if I ever make a denim one, it will definitely be tied with red thread.
