I have one similar to yours, mine has the sewing machine picture on the lid. I purchased it in the 80's. Mine is in new condition and has "The Singer Manufacturing Co." etched in gold on one end. I looked inside and it had become the storage container for my little HST cut aways. Who knew? I had forgotten about them.

I have one just like that that I purchased many years ago-I would guess in the '80;s and it probably came from Hancocks. I keep my mother's button collection in it. I have two other Singer tins that I got about the same time to use to decorate my sewing room (and stash stuff in). One has a picture of the Singer 401 machine on it ( I still have my 401). They do say that 'Singer' is a registered trademark or the Singer Corporation. Just enjoy it even though it is not vintage-someday it will be.

Not really "vintage" just an aftermarket production. They came in an assortment of sizes/shapes with a few different patterns. The wastebasket is the hardest to get.
They came empty.
Not sure how long they were made - but newer ones have barcodes on them.
The original Singer Manufacturing Company, "Simanco" was very particular about the name Singer, and you would not find machines made by Singer with any other name on them. However as time went by lots of things changed (including the corporate name) and eventually The Singer Company started using "Singer" as a badge and it started showing up on other products.
