My family call me a "security nazi" but I still keep car & house locked at all times. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Might add we have never been broken into and have lived all over Australia. As someone here said too many think it's alright to take what others have. I've noticed that those on drugs think it's fine to take from others because they have a habit to feed. I've worked hard for what I have and have no intention making it easy for anyone to take it from me.
It's sad but a fact of life, unfortunately. Stay safe everyone.

Being a woman I always lock my car doors. when I get out at the gas station, only my drivers door is unlocked. when I stop at traffic lights, all are locked. when I put my grocery cart into the rack, all doors get locked as I am away from my car and I had put my purse in it.

All these ideas are great and good reminders for us. However, I always worry that showing these things on TV gives potential bad guys good ideas too!!

This happened to a friend of mine in Wisconsin. Her husband was behind the car pumping gas and she was sitting in the front passenger seat with her purse on her lap. A guy came up and opened her door and smiled. She thought he was going to say something to her but he grabbed the purse and took off. It all happened so fast she didn't even have time to grab hold of her purse. Her husband didn't even see it happen!

I lock my car and put my keys in my pocket when I'm at the self serve car wash.

I always lock my handbag in my car before I start unloading my groceries into my trunk. A few weeks back I had just started putting my things in my trunk at Walmart when this man walked up and ask if I could give him some money. He was looking all around for my bag if I had it out I think he would have grabbed it and ran. I saw him headed for other people coming out so I got in my car got my phone and called store security. I always lock my car while filling up my gas tank as that kind of theft goes on all the time around here. You never leave anything where it can be seen in you car or your car will be broke into by the time you come out.

I was in the big Mall in South Texas with our brand new Saturn station wagon..parked locked and shopped. When I returned to the car and unlocked it, more than my car sounded off and unlocked doors on cars all around me!! I quickly got in, locked the Saturn again and thankfully all the cars around me locked again! I left the area quickly before anyone was about...we traded the car back in before the 30 days of trial was over. Never wanted to try another one. Enough. I was raised at being honest, what ever was found belonged to someone, and it was not mine. I have found cash on the floor at Wal Mart and turned it in; cannot say it got back to the owner, but hope it did.

Cannot imagine someone who thinks they have to steal or rip off some else for a living. If they are in need, there are places to go these days and receive help. They have to live with themselves after losing their self respect and trust of others in society.
