And not just at the gas station. When you're loading groceries or other purchases into your car, be SURE all the other doors are locked. I always take my purse first and throw it over into the front seat, then load my stuff, so it won't be sitting there handy to snatch out of the basket while I'm busy trying to put stuff in the car. Little old ladies gotta do what little old ladies gotta do. <G>

I have a headset on that I can push a button for 911 and I always have my wallet in my coat pocket inside zipped shut a and my car is always locked when I am out of it. I also have a cane that I can use if necessary -- can club someone with it if I have to. I use the cane to walk with.

I just attended a seminar about staying safe. Bought my first ever pepper spray. It was suggested to have it out and ready any time leaving a store or mall alone...when a crook sees that, they'll go pick on someone else. Also, aim at the chest as the crook knows to duck if you spray at their face. Lots of transients here in the winter where it's usually warmer. And lots of punks on drugs don't care what they do to the elderly.
