Woohoo! You were definitely spoiled. Kindle Fire is awesome. You'll love it. I have an IPAD, too. I bounce between the two but they do the same thing.

I've had a few Nooks and now they are made by Samsung, I have the Tab E, it does everything and even make calls thru messenger, I have unlimited internet with Sprint, they assign a phone number to my device and my daughter has used it more than once to call her friends when her phone was broken. I love having my own internet connection where ever I go. I did away with my cable at home and saved tons of money this way. I watch TV, you tube, I can bluetooth any files or pictures I want to my laptop or hot spot my laptop with my tablet. Works great

I’ve had two Samsung’s. The first died after 3 years. After 3months the replacement wouldn’t hold a charge. I bought a Kindle Fire to replace that one and it is SLOW, hangs up all the time, and I am very sorry I bought it. I finally bought an IPad 2017. This is probably larger than you want, but I love mine. If I was going smaller I would buy the IPad mini. There are some really great deals on it. Get as much memory as you can afford.

I have a kindle basic reader. From 2012. Love it. Wondering about a paper white just for the light to read at night. Also have an iPad which I love!

I dropped my Ipad the other day. My son taped the whole thing so little tiny bits of glass wouldn't fall and my cat wouldn't get them in his paws. I really don't want another one and believe it or not it still works. Maybe I'll get a Kindle Fire. Everyone seems to like them and they are not expensive.

I bought protective cases for all my Kindles. It's worth it.

You said you can't get iPhones, but can you get an iPad mini? I love mine!
