Woolworths and thrifty drugs were my favorite when I was a kid. We also still have a ben frankin's here in reno. The one in sparks closed last summer. They are on line... you did know that right? Lots of goodies that come through the mail to your door.

We had a 5&10 store which I think later became a Ben Franklin,, I loved that store, it had everything.. One think I remember my sister and I buying was Blue Waltz Perfume. We always shopped there... In Branson MO there is a Ben Franklin down town,, it is like a trip back in time.. it has hair nets, hair pens and yes Blue Waltz Perfume(I didn't even know they still make it). I bought a bottle for my sister... Ahh the memories, life was so much simpler back then...

Yes, I remember all of those mentioned. TG&Y had the best fabric. Suiting especially. I made 3 piece suits for work.

My grandmother worked in the food bar of a Kregrees in Syracuse NY back in the 50s. Every friday my twin and I got a new block to embrdery when we went there. It was a neet store. Today in Missouri, Holden still has a a 5 and 10 store (prices are not the same) but Walkers is like going back to the 50's. He has a great area of fabrics and all the good stuff. If anyone is ever in Branson MO there is Dick's. Oh the memories.

It had a wooden floor and was next to a bank that was on the corner.

That was the store I got to go to 'on my own' - not that 'on my own' was very far from an adult!

Do you have any memories of an almost general store from when you were growing up?
Ours was a 'Ben Franklin 5 and Dime Store' - and you've described it perfectly. I used to ride my bike there to spend my allowance.
