Some farmers have moved to other areas and a lot of the old tobacco farmers are getting old, so it it being phased out.

Goats are popular, as is farmed-raised fish/shrimp. That might be why catfish is so popular here. There were grants available for cattle, goats and beekeepers. I think the money might have come from the cigarette company settlements.

There are still a few farmers raising tobacco but it definitely is not the cash crop it was.

BTW. A couple of months ago I stopped in a local Pizza Hut for carry out and noticed ashtrays on tables. I asked if they stilll permitted smoking and was told it was privately owned and was an owner decision to continue to allow smoking.

Also, people were helping themselves to the ashtrays so they were having a difficult time keeping them on tables. I wondered if they were being removed by the smokers or nonsmokers.

It hasn't been allowed in Ohio for several years now. I used to barely be able to be in a restaurant before! It is so wonderful NOT to have smoking allowed in restaurants!

    What about where you live?
I agree but wish they would move away from the front doors.

Similar way here in New Mexico - you can still smoke in bars (if their only business is a bar, not like a bar & grill) and, get this, CASINOS!!!!

All resturants and bars and public places are smoke free in Michigan but you can still smoke in all of the casinos here.

They banned it last July. Certain cities in WI had already banned it. I worked in a bar, so it was a big thing...The place I work shut down right after that.

I hate to go into a restaurant and smell smoke. They haven[t banned it in MO yet in all places, but there are a few restaurants that are non smoking. I have heard rumors that some city's are going to ban it. but it isn't state wide -yet. Think the restaurants would find more people eating out if it were smoke free.
