Thanks for all the great recipes. I had myself a bowl and revisited my childhood. Geez I was skinny back then!

1 gallon + snow
1 quart whole milk
2 cups sugar.
1 oz vanilla extract more or less to taste (I always put more)

I run batches thru the blender. Kids get less sugar than adults.
No snow here so I guess I have to go to the store for some Mayfields snow cream (local dairy brand).

I can remember it from my childhood in WV. First all the stuff was set out on the porch to get cold, bowl, milk, spoons, eating bowls, etc. Then out to get some of the top snow that was freshest, just under the top if it was over a few hours old. (Okay, we were snow snobs!) Then inside came the rest of the stuff and everything was poured into a giant cold bowl, stirred like mad and served in front of the fire, with us all shivering with the cold food but loving it at the same time. This works best with heavy jammies or a nightgown and a heavy quilt wrapped around you. The wind howling outside and hurling small branches at the house made it so much safer and warmer inside. Those are good memories.

I can remember top milk (mostly cream) sugar, vanilla and some sort of flavoring to add to the taste. Jelly, canned fruit drained, chilled and cut/smushed, any bit of chocolate that had been hidden from nosey kids and adults. All that went together into one of winter's most charming memories.
