I would take your boys and go. My husband like yours is a workaholic. I tell him if he doesn't want to go fine but I still am. For our 25th ann. I booked a small 3 day cruise, told him, he had 2 options, #1; go and try to have some fun and relax, #2, if I go by myself and find some rich guy, guess what I am not coming back. We went with option #1.

Please don't let your husband's choices prevent you from doing what you want to do.If you don't go and introduce your children to experiences with your side of the family whilst you can, it may lead to disappointment or resentment later on and that is not a healthy position to be in. Take an emotional health break and enjoy.

You really need to go. It is so important to spend time with your family as they are not always going to be around. Love my husband dearly, but there is always some excuse as to why he can't go but I don't let that be the reason for me not to go. Left up to him we never would have done anything that meant a lot of travel or crowds. So...my children and I went to the family reunions, the parades, 4th of July shows, craft shows, etc. Share your children and yourself with the family. We are only here for a short time.

All marriages work differently and only you know what it would cost you to go if your husband didn't want you to go. However, if your health would permit you to drive and finances would let you do it, then you should see your extended family. Your boys should meet them. Your boys should see some of America. Maybe your folks can help with expenses. If you do go, for the sake of your boys and your health, try to take a few days more and have more of a vacation. Because of my husband's work schedule I had to take my boys on vacation every summer for 10 years. I drove from California to Louisiana and we camped, usually took a month to see everyone. Camping and eating out of a cooler cut expenses so that we could visit everyone and see all the sights. The boys still talk about how much they enjoyed the trips 20 years later.
