OH!!!! the Kindle is just the very best. I love, love, love mine. Lots of free books on Amazon and it's so easy to operate. Your really don't need a tutorial, although there are a few. It is also very easy to see in the sunlight, unlike some competitors. You won't be sorry if you get a Kindle

We gave our daughter one for Christmas this year. She loves heres. But she loves to read and that is her hobby. She has always been an avid reader and that was just the perfect gift.

Have you seen all the stories on diminished reading comprehension and e-readers? Entertaining but I've never put a lot of stock in media coverage of "studies."
Here's a fun link:

As a kid, I remember being told by the media that coffee was really bad for me one week and great for me the next. YMMV.

As another poster put it recently, reading is tactile and actual books teach a lot more than just the written word.
I hate thinking of a future for folks without real books!

One other comment - - I've downloaded (takes literally seconds) many free books on my Kindle, 99% of which were good reads. If not, just don't read them, delete them and go on to another. Nothing lost.
Evidently the list of free books changes from week to week so it's worth checking whenever you think of it.

i agree with the love fest of kindle. i got mine for christmas, too. i bought one for my son two years ago for his birthday and it cost $350. this year he got me one for christmas and i don't know the cost but it was a lot less. he found a free download and put 750 books on it for me. there are lots i won't ever read but lots i will read. although it has the wireless download capability i don't think i will need to use it very soon. really enjoying going back and rereading books like shogun.
many feel that they would not like curling up with a computer to read but that is the main reason i love it. it is so much lighter to hold and i never have to weigh the pages down. it is easier to carry with me when i go out. it is fantastic.

I have one that I just love. It is so easy to read. There is no glare so you can read outside very easily. Great for travel you don't have to carry an extra suitcase of books. They just started letting you lend your books to someone else. I definately would recomend it.

I LOVE MY KINDLE...thank you for posting this because it gives me the chance to announce my LOVE to kindle..i read a lot and i have so far two big wall cabinets full of books and since i started quilting i need to cut on space usage (you know why ;-) ). I got the middle one which is 3G and wi fi for $189. it is very convenient to have the 3G wherever you go since that works on cell phone networks, and you can enlarge fonts so no need for the big one (i see it bulky and waste of money). Also the amount of books and media you can get on that thing is amazing. I even downloaded a quilting book the other day out of curiousity. It is just awesome and convenient.
One thing though when you buy one think carefull about the light. After i bought several regular book lights, i ended up buying the kindle version kindle cover with the built in light (man that thing is amazingly convenient), pricy but worth every penny once you use it.
Hope that helps....did i mention i love my kindle?????
