A few people who dropped by to look at all of the work we've done and are currently in the progress of doing referred to our basement kitchen as a "summer kitchen".
I never heard of a "summer kitchen" before.

As far as stand up freezers go, make sure to get one with drawers. Otherwise one constantly juggles to find stuff on shelves while keeping other stuff from rolling out and breaking toes!! Frozen chickens are NOT square and pack a hefty punch when they drop even a short distance. I know chest freezers are a pain to paw through but so are standup freezers when what you want is at the back of the shelf.
Also remember that the more bells and whistles are incorporated, the more things can go wrong, Read the warranty very carefully. We got lucky. The compressor on our LG went just before it was out of warranty. But the service call was a very big pain in the you know where because we live in the boonies. The replacement part cost nothing. Service call and labour was $400+. (WILL NEVER EVER HAVE ONE OF THEM IN MY HOME AGAIN AFTER THIS ONE BITES THE DUST!! And yes I did mean to yell!) In my opinion, LG is the worst for service and repair.

Super hearing about brands, because we've been researching as many brands as we can with our seearches revolving around quality and reliability.
Such a shame that appliances in general don't last anywhere near as long as appliances did back in the day.

As mentioned in another comment made by me, I don't care for the chest freezers but I have one as the first one was given to me so I made use of it for my berries. Finally had to replace it and it's only a small one. Problem I had was keeping the 2 types of berries separated so I had a piece of plexiglass cut to go down the middle and fit between the 2 baskets I have on top as I kept the basket from the old chest freezer. Now I can keep track of how many strawberries and raspberries I have and know what I'm picking up without having to look on the label. I also keep a white board telling me what I have in both freezers out in the garage as well as the 2 down in the basement so I know what I need to stock up on at any given time.
Oh yes, I did have to cut the old basket to fit the new chest freezer but it works fine now.

Our old chest freezer is huge, so will be nice to get something upright that not only saves space, but hopefully, takes us through to the end and provides us with the reliability that our old chest freezer did.
Yum-yum, those raspberries and strawberries sound delish!!!

I remember the memorable time in the mid 1950’s when the women in our family got their own home freezers. They were huge chest freezers bought at the “scratch and dent” place because they were cheaper than any retail store. Ours had a big scratch on the side and it never affected the workings.
They filled them with sweet corn, fresh butchered chickens, fruit, baked goods. Convenience at its best !
I am retired but I cook ahead and use my freezer. More time to make quilts !

Our freezer is new. The old one went out the week before DH's processed deer would be delivered, packaged and frozen. (Axis deer tastes like beef!) So, I had to choose a new freezer based on delivery date! Love it!
BTW, I recall ads for sales during Labor Day. Good time to shop deals.
Also, as I said, the ice makers quit working. I bought a Panasonic countertop ice maker, available at amazon and Sam's. The best! $89ish
