    Default Standard Pillowcase Size Question

From what I've been able to find, a standard size pillow (in the USA, anyway) is 20 x 26 inches.

For donation purposes, what is the preferred finished size?

I've seen 'finished sizes' as large as 21 inches wide x 32 inches long
and as small as 20 inches wide by 28 inches long.

Also with hems as shallow as 2 inches and as deep as 5 inches.

Any comments from those that distribute the pillow cases?

My personal preference for my use at home pillows - are 31 inches long with a 4 inch finished hem.

on the APQ site for the 1 million pillowcase challenge the plain pillowcase finishes at 30" X 20" . These are all donation pillowcases http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millio...rns/index.html

My stock answer for this ..... ASK the group whom you are wishing to donate to.

Some have specifics as to the sizes ... and I expect there may be other "rules" that need to be adhered to, for a donation to be welcomed.

Better to ask up front and know, than to do so, and be disappointed when you show up with a truckload () of pillowcases and they turn you away!

There are several very good videos on youtube that are great for making a standard size pillowcase with french seams and absolutely ZERO loose threads on the inside. I've seen 3 different videos each giving different measurements. My favorite is using 23" for the body and 13" for the cuff. From start to finish, it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to go from raw fabric to a completed beautiful pillow case. These would make great little gifts at Christmas time, if you don't know what to buy someone. Total cost is about $8-$10 depending on the fabric you buy.

I cut the body of my pillowcases at 27 inches by width of fabric and the cuff part at 10 inches by width of fabric. If I add the accent piece it is cut at 2.5 inches by width of fabric. Selvedges should be cut off all pieces.
