With the abnormally long gestation period is Precious or her foal in any serious danger and would it be appropriate to call in a vet to check them out. We certainly do want anything bad to happen. I am curious about the box too.

Thats a foaling alarm. It will set off an alarm in the house if the mare lays flatl. I dont use them as my mares lay flat all the time and I hate leaving a halter on a mare in a stall. But other breeders love them
I have had friends mares go 380 and be fine so keeping a good thought that all is well

Poor Harley! Sure hope he starts feeling better.
Bad Patches! She shouldn't be in heat so soon. She needs to wait until her baby is better!
Precious needs to hurry and foal! That will be a pretty one she has!

I thought that Kay should get one, but especially with Star laying down like she does, Kay would be running to the stall all the time. lol
That poor mare, she's GOT to be REALLY uncomfortable!
Maybe we need to do the foal dance for her!

My mares laid out flat every night too--so those alarms would not have worked for me.
A mare goes into a foal heat about 10 days after foaling. Breeding then is controversial--some say it's the strongest heat and the mare is more likely to settle (get pregnant), while others say she isn't completely healed from the birth and there's a risk of infection. I never noticed when mine went into their foal heat--but Chloe never showed any signs of heat at any time and although Gypsy waved red flags when she was--she didn't when she has a foal on her side.

I know a lot of breeders that accidentally turn those alarms off instead of reset because they go off all night long (they are asleep and dont realize they hit off) --- so they end up missing the foaling. I think it gives almost a false sense of security
This is Patches 30 day heat. I only got to breed her to Feature one time because Harley got sick. I dont breed on the one week foal heat either. Just doesnt seem fair to the mare

I still check in a few times a day to see who's in the stall. I guess I'm weening myself off of "mare stare" slowly! LOL

I am really hoping to turn the cam outside once we are done. I think it would be fun for people to be able to check in now and then and see the babies out playing.
Im hoping Harley is turning the corner. The vet tech yesterday said to only give him about an hour of turnout per day so poor Patches is going nuts. He has to rest that leg. I dont see a limp this morning but its hard to tell when hes in the stall
