Last year she was down and pushing when I found her and with the neighbors help got her to a stall. Then only one leg presented and we couldnt find the second leg. Turned the cam off and got the other neighbor over and it took him forever to get the second leg out. We thought for sure the foal was dead as it had been like 35 mins. We were all so shocked when we pulled him, layed him on the ground and he opened his eyes and nickered! That was why we named that foal Jim as that is my neighbors name that saved him. We couldnt get a vet to come so thank god my neighbor is so knowledgeable! This all happened at like 10 am on a monday morning so neither kyle or rusty was home. It was horrible!

Kay, Star will behave herself this year. I already talked to her and she said she'd try her hardest to wait until you get back.

Must have been scary, Kay, thank God your neighbour was on hand! I'd wet myself if I had to handle something like that on my own! I'm sure she'll be fine this time!

BTW - amma's Flirt FQs came! Thanks amma, I love them! Have posted pics on the Flirt FQs are landing thread!

Poor Kay! I can't even begin to imagine how awful that must have been. But I sure wish we could have seen your face when the foal nickered! I'll bet your heart did a big flip-flop!

Ok, gotta tell you about the great laugh I just got.
I'm still chuckling!
Hubby is out on the balcony, where he always is every night.
He comes screaming in the house and I'm trying to figure out WHY he's running like a scared little school girl.
Well...it's dark out there and "something" landed on him.
I grab the flashlight and go out. It's a Praying Mantis. HUGE ONE!
So, he comes back out and wants to kill it! I told him NOOOO!! It eats the bad bugs! So, he grabs the broom and tries to sweep it away, but it's just hopping on the floor of the balcony...I'm still laughing at him.
Finally, it latches on the broom and he can toss it over the side.
He puts the broom down and says...if that thing comes back again, I'm getting the bug spray! lol The woos!!

Yeah I started crying like a baby LOL. I was so sure the foal was dead. My neighbor jim started laughing. Wonder if she will foal morning again. They seem to follow the same pattern so I told russ to be real careful letting her out once she gets close.

Yeah, Kay, I told Terri last night that you needed a Pasture Cam. But mostly so we could see the foals playing. But a reeeally good justification is Ms. Star there! LOL That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :P

No Gai.....I told you. You want your 4 seasons back....just move up to Ohio with Kay! She'll make you a nice place in the barn. You can have your OWN stall, maybe even your own cam too! :) :) :)

Kay, is it common for a foal to nicker that soon after birth, or is Jim one of those miracles?
