A stove question
If you have a self cleaning oven, can you still use oven cleaner on it? I know it's a dumb question and some of you are saying "Why not just use the self clean feature?", but it is absolutely filthy and I am very nervous about those high temps for such a long period, considering that I do not know what has been cooked in it.
I also do not have the manual for it. It is a Frigidare model, probably 5-10 years old. You may have guessed that I have 'inherited' this appliance, so to say.

I used oven cleaner on my self cleaning oven during the summer because it gets up to like 500 degrees (so I use the self cleaner in the winter). We have a 12 year old frigidaire we bought when the house was built and I have not had any problems, just make sure you rinse well.

According to this, it's OK.

It had never crossed my mind that it might not be OK, so I've done it lots of times. I've also never removed the racks when using the self clean feature and even put my burner grates in there. So far, nothing bad has happened with any of those scenarios.

i didn't remove my racks when i used the self-cleaning option.
burned all the chrome off.
they still work just fine but look awful and do not slide smoothly anymore.
that should teach me to read the directions from now on.
at least i hope i do. LOL
