They're beautiful to look at, but I'd be scared to death of them! When we lived in Puerto Rico, we had 5 foot iguanas that would eat everything I planted.

My dad learned hunting as a child. He did it until my mom saw his shoot a deer. It broke her heart. She promised to divorce him if he ever did it again. I think he thought his marriage was more important than venison. The remained married nearly 49 years until Mom's death. PLEASE DON'T shoot these beautiful creatures.

They are certainly beautiful creatures. They know that they can't be shot at because they're so relaxed.

Wow, seems to be a week of Elk! Must be something to see them just meander into your yard and take a nap!

My Lord, but they are magnificent creatures! Kinda hard to drive around them, I figure. When the kids here play road hockey they yell 'CAR!' when they have to move out of the way. I guess they call "ELK!'in your neck of the woods. LOL

    are they yours?

and why would anyone want to legally shoot them, anyway?

No on can own elk. They come and go as they please, and are protected. But I do need to clear up a misconception about the elk. I live in Oregon. The elk live in Montana. My friend lives summers in Montana and she sent me the pictures. They were just too great to not share.
As to why they would want to shoot them, is for the meat. They are very tasty. Better than deer meat. I was raised on venison in Coos County, Oregon, and we had venison year round, My dad called it "hillside salmon", and we were rarely without. We did eat a lot of river salmon, too. Times were hard and he did what he did to keep food on the table. Today it would be different, I'm sure.
