I sympathize. My son had strep constantly when he was young. Always on antibiotics. It would go away and three weeks later he'd have it again. He'd get the stomach ache that went with it and at one point I thought he was faking to avoid school, but then we'd get the test and sure enough, it was strep again. He did outgrow it eventually and only got it once since then -- he was co-leading a three week St. George Trek at Philmont and had to go off-trail for a couple of days while the meds kicked in.

My daughter had strep month after month as soon as she finished the antibiotics, she would get a new strain. Pedi sent us to a Ear, Nose Throat specialist who recommended taking out the tonsils. She hasn't had one case since! Best thing we have done! It is such an easy procedure for younger kids.

yes someone in your immediate family could be a carrier,
And get a new toothbrush each time he is treated for strep.
And is he at the age when he might be sharing a straw with a fellow friend?
It is horrible your child has to indure this at all much less so often.
    Get Well soon.

My son is now 29. When he was 6 he kept getting strep throat. Each time he finished all of his antibiotic. Finally the pediatrician tested everyone. My son was the carrier. He could be tested at any given time and would be positive for strep but would not sick. To top it off, he was allergic to penicillin and all related to penicillin. The antibiotic was sooooooo expensive. He has to wear a bracelet at all times. This is the same child who had Mononucleosis at age 4. It took about 6 weeks for him to totally recover.

Our children got strep frequently and we found out my husband was a carrier (he never got it). They took his adenoids out and no more strep! Get a good ENT to check out the whole family.

Years ago, I was having bouts of strep almost monthly. Turned out I had a bad tooth that was continuously dropping the infection into my throat. Got the tooth fixed and no more bouts of strep!

You need to insist that everyone in the family, including pets, be tested to see if anyone is a carrier.
If not, then you have a problem in finding out who else the child is in contact with who might be a carrier and kindly request that they be tested also. If it were my child, I would offer to pay for the testing if insurance is a problem.
Strep can lead to serious results if not halted.

I'm currently on my 4th round of the flu, cold, upper respitory junk along with strep throat for the 3rd time AND I've had my tonsils out when I was 3 because of persistant strep/ear infections. This time is a little different because both my DH and I have been sick at the same time and that hasn't ever happened in 20 years of marriage.

I can feel for you! I didn't think I could get strep after having my tonsils out and the doctor set me straight on that real quick! I'm so tired of being sick, can't get any sewing/quilting done because I can't get enough energy up to do anything. :)

I'll keep you in my prayers!!!!
