Sugar Skull Ornaments
I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest, Sugar Skull ornaments. I saw a machine embroidery design at Urban Threads. Stitching it out was such fun, using all the bright threads, it was like using all the crayons in the box. I stuffed and hand stitched the bottom of the ornaments, giving it that handcrafted look. I added the ribbon and crystals to the eyes. My learning was, it probably a good idea to put the bling on before sewing sides together. I have a large vase with branches of LED light buds and a manzanita branch, perfect for hanging the ornaments. I intended to give these as party favors at a Day of the Dead celebration this fall. Now, I don't think I can part with these. Time to start the next batch.

Close up. I hand stitched the black blanket stitch, took me an hour. Therefore, only one had this treatment.

Sugar skull designs of all sorts seem to be very popular right now. Love your ornaments! Wonder if my gs would like them or if they are too scary for them? Does anyone know why these are called "Sugar Skulls"? Oh, guess I could google it.
