Default Suggestions please: how to hang pennant/banners

I was thinking about making a quilted pennant/banner to hang on my fireplace mantle, but I'm unsure how to hang it. My entire fireplace and mantle are brick, so thumbtacks are out and I doubt tape would stick on the uneven surface. Someone at a store suggested command strips/hooks, but I think they'd have the same problem as tape. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Can you use stocking hangers? The kind that rest on the mantle with the hooks hanging down, or would that make your pennant too low? Maybe test the command hooks?

I think the Command hooks would work, but I'd paint them after they were applied. The ones I've seen are very white.

If the mantle sticks out, I would do a big circle around the mantle with fishing line. You could then attach the banner on the line under the mantle with some mini clothespins or similar.

I would try the command adhesive hooks. I have had really good luck with them and they don't leave any marks.

Brick hooks from Amazon or any hardware store.
