Theorectically, Could YOU go on a buying fast?

I used to buy by the bolt, so I have enough fabric to last alifetime and now I have a full time job and hardly ever have time to sew. Yet, I love my fabrics... but I have noticed that the fabrics out in stores today are really different... larger scale florals, softer colors, etc... so if I started to sew faithfully again, I would want more.
But, yes, I have stopped buying. My husband has been out of work for over a year now and we have two kids in college, so my fabric obsession is no longer a priority. I still love to look though!

But then you get into 3 months...6 months...that's when it starts to make me nervous. Could I go a year? Just talking materials, I bet I could. But psychologically? OOOOoooo...I dunno....
So, I bought a "lot" of cotton thread, just to be safe. I'd hate to be out of thread if I really resolved *not* to buy anything quilting-related....
Anyone ever done it?

Oh the inhumanity of the thought!! At 70 years, I have enough fabric to last me if I live another 70 years, but the thought of not buying any more fabric gives me chills (and not the good kind). Today is Veteran's Day and my son drove me to Hancocks, where I spent $150 on fabric (almost all was 1/2 price). I got home and checked online for some "blenders" I didn't see at the store - promptly spent another $75.00 (again 1/2 price fabric).
As a widow, living alone, with no vice (unless you count my stash), I won't even consider a "fabric fast". So much cotton, so much pleasure - why begrudge myself???? I've earned it.
Am I the only one who gets joy from just sitting at the cutting table folding and refolding cotton - Better than Prozac.

Good question!!!
I've been cutting back on spending money at the STORE(s) for fabric - only buying when it's a great price and product somewhere else (private sale)
BUT BUT BUT
I was thinking WHAT WOULD HAPPEN if ALL the quilters (or a whole big bunch) did decide to stop buying at stores for say... 1 month ... do you think 'they' would notice?
More importantly - would it affect prices in the future? Would there be more sales? Would regular prices be higher?
Anyone in economics here?
