Every so often I clean my iron with vinegar. I just pour some on a towel and rub it on the iron. Usually when it's hot but I really should do it when it's cold. I just suddenly remember when I'm using it.

My iron isn't nonstick and so far it looks brand new still.

I've had a $100 Rowenta which broke after less than 2 years. When I checked online reviews I was very dismayed at the overwhelming negative vs. positive results for Rowenta. I replaced it with a Black & Decker 'Digital Advantage' for around $50. (Mimi: It's still available) That was over 2 years ago. It's been a great workhorse. The has auto shut off (my main concern). The steam is great! Only spits if I overfill. When I don't want steam, it doesn't give me stream. Been a great appliance for me.

My husband was going to WM to pick up prescriptions. Desperate to finish the closet, I called & asked him to pick up an iron, any iron, so I could finish. Him being a penny pincher, I was afraid what he would come back with. Imagine my surprise, when he brought a Panasonic cordless steam iron! It irons like a dream, is easy to fill, has no cord except on the recharge station(which has a retractable cord!), and because it is so light, I can iron for hours. It comes with a hard plastic blue cover/carrying case. its just wonderful. The reason for the splurge on hubby's part…..its a TOOL.

I was looking at this iron also. Do you still like it. Some people say it doesn't get hot enough.

Ladies, the comments are great. I'm having a waffle of a time deciding between a Shark and the B&D. When the waffling settles and I hand over the cc, I will post which one. Hopefully years from now, I can find this thread and tell everyone it's still working great! Blessins in the sewing room friends.

Many irons spit and sputter because of the water that is used for generating the steam. I mix 1/2 tap water with 1/2 distilled water and never have any issues. Even if the iron packaging says it uses tap water I mix the water.

I made my purchase based on pros/cons here and on my Facebook page. Seems that B&D and Shark hit my ok button more than any others. Price also had something to do with it, but I was willing to go up considerably if there was one that really scored.
I hope I can get the picture posted of the my new pal. She's not pretty, but one thing I love is that warranty. The more expensive ones I had over the last couple of years had NO warranty. This warranty is impressive, although her looks are mighty plain. My mother would recognize this one.
Thanks for all the comments and help. I appreciate this board. Love seeing the quilts, quilting rooms, and recipes, etc. Just a great web family.

B&D The Classic Iron. With a 2 year warranty. 3 way auto shut off.

Tried to add a picture, but guess it isn't working for me.

I don't think so. My best friend bought one of those new iron used on F&P called Reliable. Well, it is being sent back for a replacement and it is NOT even 6 months old. She is using her temperamental Rowenta iron for the time being. So frustrating !!
