When my husband died suddenly of a heart attack he became a donor. Few months later I received a letter saying that he had helped 8 to 10 people with the donation.
I was never told anything about what or where except they said something about the large bones which surprised me. I could only remember that I had phoned the hospital to say I wanted his body treated as a donor and his ambulance was just pulling up with the body.
Glad I thought of it in time rather than after the fact.

My mom died last December and we donated organs through "Gift of Hope." The agency contacted me about a quilt block. It's such an awesome idea. We don't get to meet any recipients until a year after her death, though. I hope the recipients want to meet us as well.

My whole family are designated organ donors. I make sure my card is the first thing emergency people will find. My dad passed at 79 and they were still able to use some. Your story is vital so more people will be inspired to donate in difficult times. Thanks for posting. Bless your heart (and that wonderful mother's heart, too).

She was truely a strong woman to meet the man who had her son's eyes. I couldn't do that. My daughter passed away 5 years ago, we also donated her organs. I was sent a letter that her eyes were given to a woman who needed them and wanted to know if I wanted to meet her. I couldn't do it. I could not see those beautiful brown eyes in someone else's face. We always called her our Brown Eyed Girl. I am truely happy that my daughter's eyes helped someone else see, but I could look her "in the eyes" of my girl.
