Tired of carping!
#271
Years ago, someone had a song about this very subject and said how they'd like to hear a little good news today! My sister is coming in about 3 weeks and I am really excited about that! I have 6 siblings and she is the only one that sews/ and/or quilts. Our children are within a few days of each other---daughters 9 days apart--sons 5 months apart. So it's easy to see why we enjoy each others company. My hubby even likes her hubby!

Froggy in Texas: (((((hugs)))))
hugs and blessings to all who make it a habit to "look on the bright side" and "the glass is half FULL"
hugs and blessing to all who have to make a major effort to "look on the bright side" and "the glass is half FULL"

I really don't know what carping is! There are people who are downright mean. Stay away from them! But having a legitimate complaint is a different thing. In my growing up I was not allowed to complain. I was expected to be understanding of whatever the situation was and keep my mouth shut. A complaint was a sign that I was ungrateful, and I was not allowed to be ungrateful! From this I learned for years to only look at the bright side and never complain. What it netted me was a life of being abused.
When I look back, I see event after event where I should have opened my mouth (for the sake of self-preservation) and I held my tongue because that is what was expected of me. It was expected that I should be obedient and suffer in silence Be sacrificial! As an adult I came to understand that I did not own myself! What a bunch of crap! A complaint is the very first step in loving yourself and stopping abuse, seeing yourself as having validity! It is a statement of disallowing a wrong to be perpetrated against you. It does not matter if it is in a store, a complaint about what happens on the political scene, against a husband or wife who is abusive, against an authoritative medical system who only sees things their way. When you teach a child to conform and accept whatever is doled out against him without complaint, you are teaching that child to accept abuse! If complaints are not made, things won't change for the better!
With this said, I am not condoning frivolous meanness. People who are mean can be very difficult to deal with. The issue is not the complaint, but the shallow meanness and selfishness many people exhibit against their fellows. Any group that has a policy that is unfair needs complaints to keep them from getting away with what they are doing! They do not own you! Any unfair policy that is perpetrated into the world can become a slavery. When it happens that you are required to conform to something you know is not right, you become a slave.
I am assuming Froggy's point is that she wants all people on the board to play nicely together! I think this is a wonderful board! And I have learned a huge amount about quilting in a very short time! I value what I have learned through reading about others' complaints and through the praise that one has for another.

I would like to say that I enjoy this site and look forward to it every day to read the info, see new quilts, tutorials. I have also made new friends that i chat too and it is pleasure to have been able to join and i have in fact told my other quilting friends about this site and some have joined. I am sure others feel the same way as i do.

To quote the bird character in the comic strip "Mutts" - "There's always something to sing about." Or, look for the good in any situation. Unless someone starts the conversation with "Rose Ann, you dummy," venting doesn't bother me. It obviously helps the Venter feel better.
